The Asian Resource Foundation promotes the spirit of caring and sharing in the light of cultural and spiritual values. We support holistic development, that empowers the poor and other marginalised and vulnerable groups. We also work to strengthen cooperative actions among the people of Asia and beyond for a just, peaceful and sustainable world.

Objectives

  • To build awareness to mobilize and share resources for holistic development.
  • To support participatory local initiatives of the young people, the poor, and marginalized sections of the society in order to stimulate self-reliance and sustainability.
  • To undertake research and publication for lobbying activities in order to influence the policies of the government and intergovernmental agencies so that resources are made available for the program undertake by basic grassroots communities and their own organizations.

ARF Core Program

1. Human Resource Development & Capacity Building

ARF offers leadership and management training to youth organizations and smaller NGO's. We also facilitate trans-border, intercultural and interfaith networking process towards collective and coordinated actions on common issues and concerns.

2. Academic Exchange

ARF in partnership with other regional and international organizations and networks is actively engaged in advocacy on the following issue

  • An Asian Response to globalization. This includes advocating sustainable development, poverty eradication, and environmental protection.
  • Peace and Human Rights. These rights include the rights of children, youth, women and the rights of ethnic and religious minorities.
  • Education on social issues including prevention of drug trafficking and abuse, sexual abuse, and HIV/AIDS.

3. Mobilize Fund and support peoples initiatives for

Children's education, Scholarships, Empowerment of Women and income-generation activities. This fund is composed of the contribution of individual members, earnings from services, and contributions from the Lorraine Robinson Education Fund. Assistance is extended to support initiatives under young leadership towards education, empowerment and economic self reliance of the most vulnerable sections of society: children, youth, women, and the poor.

4. Support Network

ARF extends support in the form of fund raising, developing contacts, and planning and execution of the program. The following receive support from ARF: AMAN, YCCI, LOREF, and Asia Interfaith Forum for Peace (AIFP)

5. Drug Prevention Education Project

Drug abuse is a serious threat to the future of the younger generation. The magnitude and complexity of this problem demands cooperation among all stakeholders: the government, NGOs and the families. In the year 2002, ARF developed a program titled "Understanding Impact of Drug Abuse: Possibilities of Better Future for the Youth" which is being implemented in detention centers in Thailand (Bann Prani and Bann Sirinthorn) covering 220 girls and 150 boys. Thai Health Promotion Foundation has extended financial support for this program.
